I had the most amazing intern this last quarter (who you will probably be seeing around as my assistant once she gets back from England.) As part of her degree requirement, we had to do some projects that showed cultural awareness. This sweet couple volunteered to be one of our subjects and braved being sandblasted on a super cold & windy day. The pics are worth it! I have to say, I love this one. Looking forward to one amazing wedding this fall and some fun engagement portraits at the fair!
I don't know anyone personally that died in war but I know plenty of people who have served our country so I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU! I would be the worst person ever in the military so I respect anyone who has endured it in any form.
Every Memorial Day, I think of a local Marine, Travis Pfister who lost his life a few years ago. I went up during his memorial service to take pics of the events and even though I was outside of it, it still was a powerful moment for me. The awful Westboro Baptist "Church" came to town and in response, there were people, motorcycles, & flags lined up as far as you could see to make sure the family did not have to view them. I can't believe anyone would be so hateful but I was proud of our community for coming together for it.
I still have the images online from it. They are watermarked under my old business name: http://tricitiesphotography.com/pfister
Here is a before & after from a recent Mother/Daughter Session. I think L looks great without make-up so it isn't a very dramatic transformation. For some reason I always forget to do the "before" pic until my make-up artist is just finishing and I go "Oh crap! We forgot the before pic again!" This time I did this while L's daughter was finishing up so I made sure to get mom before she got started on her pampering.
Below are some images from the rest of the session. We all love the image of them looking at each other and laughing. Mom was telling her daughter who has been married for a few years to get started on those grand-babies. I love being able to capture real moments of families connecting like this.
My daughter turned 3 this week so I made it a point to document most of the day. Three is such a fun age and she loved every bit of the day that I wanted to have it recorded. As we were having our Happy Meals for lunch she told me it was the best birthday ever so that is where you get the blog title. .
First we started the morning with a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos and Cooties. Then I asked her what she wanted for lunch, I suggested the park and she replied with Happy Meals at the McDonald's with toys. Like any 3-year-old, she insisted on dressing herself and right now we love stripes. Note the striped shirt and pants. In her world, they go together.
At lunch she told me she wanted to go feed the birds so that was our next stop. It started out great until we were overwhelmed by the ducks & geese there. I kept flashing to scenes from the movie The Birds. Our visit to the duck pond ended quickly with the Birthday Girl getting bit on the finger by an overzealous goose wanting her bread. She screamed forever and kept asking me if geese had teeth. This became the topic of conversations for most of the rest of the day usually starting with "Mama why did that mean goose bite me?" We went to the toys at the park and then walked along the trails. Luckily there were a couple of nicer geese by the toys so she fed them and hopefully won't be terrified of birds the rest of her life.
After the park was of course naptime where I put together her cake. One of my facebook friends posted a similar Caterpillar Cake off pinterest a few weeks ago and that is what she asked for the entire time leading up to her birthday. The surprise and sheer joy on her face when we showed it to her was so worth it. It was super easy to make especially if you have a Pampered Chef Easy Accent Decorator. (I could do a whole post on how amazing this thing is.)
We ended the night with dinner at Red Robinhood (that is what my daughter calls it), a trip to Toys-R-US, cake, and a couple board games before bedtime! Of course like any kid her age, on her birthday the "why's" started and today I got my first "whatever mom." Here we go....
